Undergrad Intern - Process Development

Amgen's Process Development department at our West Greenwich, Rhode Island location is looking for an undergraduate student interested in a 10 - 12 week internship to develop a multivariate model of the ARI PD Engineering Lab Production Bioreactor that can be used to compare process performance to equivalent manufacturing and laboratory scale unit operations.
Activities Involved in this project are as follows:
• Data mining of various systems to compile necessary data
• Formatting of data to allow for model to be developed
• Creation of multivariate model using statistical software
• Analysis and Interpretation of multivariate model to summarize comparisons between scales of operation
• Presentation of results to appropriate Process Development personnel

What Student will learn during the internship:
• Systems used in the biotechnology industry for data management of critical biotechnology operational data
• Software for advanced statistical analysis and visualization of biotechnology unit operations
• Process Understanding of biotechnology unit operations used to produce therapeutic proteins
• Practical applications of engineering knowledge to optimize and improve biotechnology operations

Basic Qualifications
Must be at least a second year undergraduate in the process of obtaining a degree in chemical or biochemical engineering.
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
• Must be 18 years or older;
• Must be a current full time student
• Must have completed at least one full year of study at the time of application;
• Must have not yet graduated;
• Must be in good academic standing within their majors and overall at their university;
• Must be enrolled in school the fall season following the potential internship or co-op assignment.
• Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications
• Basic knowledge of statistics
• Proficient in using software for data analysis
• Some industry or research experience focused on biotechnology
• Basic knowledge of unit operations used in biotechnology
