Title: Strategic Scientist- Quantitative Modeling Location: Missouri-St. Louis Monsanto is passionate about using science and technology to improve agriculture. Monsanto scientists are conducting the research and development (R&D) to revolutionize plant breeding and biotechnology. The Technology Pipeline Solutions (TPS) team within IT works directly with the Monsanto scientists to develop software platforms that enable these research and development efforts. The accepted candidate will join the emerging field of IT systems informatics leveraging their training to play a key role in defining and delivering breakthrough science in high throughput R&D business platforms (Breeding, Breeding Technology, Biotechnology and Compliance) for Monsanto. This position is responsible to develop research strategies for discovery projects in Breeding and Biotechnology platforms. This involves integrating Breeding and Biotechnology pipelines through critical analysis of scientific trends in the business units in order to propose and develop scientifically sound novel approaches for scientific solutions. The Strategic Scientist will identify changes in state-of-the-art scientific technology in order to propose R&D software solutions to accommodate latest trends in data quantity and quality. The Strategic Scientist will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary scientists internal and external to Monsanto addressing the emerging changes in analytical scientific breakthroughs.
Required Skills: * PhD or PhD completion expected in the next 6 months in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Statistics and/or engineering discipline or equivalent degree is required. * Experience creating predictive models and strategies to drive scientific decisions * Strong programming skills and ability to build predictive models from complex data (either in an academic or professional environment) * 3 years experience with Statistical packages (R, Matlab, SAS) * Proficient in computational modeling, simulation, data analysis * Strong publication record in peer reviewed journals Desired Skills: * Advanced knowledge of various forms of statistical and analytical techniques * Machine learning experience is highly desired * Experience with scientific programming (Perl, C/C , Java) is highly desired * Experience working with agricultural/biological scientific data is highly desired Candidates who succeed in this fast-paced dynamic environment excel in the following competencies: * Results Orientation: Fosters a sense of urgency, identifies and overcomes obstacles.
