Sr Associate Scientist
The Amgen Rhode Island Process Development Purification Sciences group is seeking a Senior Associate Scientist to provide technical support for Process Development with emphasis on Purification Sciences in support of Manufacturing. The candidate will assist in the execution of bench-scale experimentation for the development, optimization and tech transfer of purification steps into Manufacturing, including: Chromatography, UF/DF, Nanofiltration and Downstream Filter operations. Assist in Process Characterization studies. Assist in experimental design, as well as review, analysis, and interpretation of scientific data and results and participating in effective cross-functional collaborations with peers in Quality, Manufacturing and other Process Development groups within the Amgen network. Additional duties will include overseeing general up-keep of the laboratory, preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment
Basic Qualifications Doctorate degree OR Master's degree and 3 years of directly related experience OR Bachelor's degree and 5 years of directly related experience OR Associate's degree and 10 years of directly related experience OR High school diploma / GED and 12 years of directly related experience
Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Life Sciences or Engineering or related discipline and 4+ years of related experience in downstream process development or BS in the same fields supplemented by 4-6 years experience. The ideal candidate will have experience in purification process development working with small-scale to pilot scale chromatography columns (1cm-30cm diameter); knowledge of downstream filtration techniques (depth filters, UF/DF filters, nanofilters, dead end filters), knowledge and experience running AKTAexplorers and AKTAcrossflow equipment and related Unicorn Software is desired. The candidate will have some experience in design of experiments, knowledge of UV-Vis protein concentration determination, and familiarity understanding and interpreting analytical data for protein quality (aggregation, mis-folding, protease clipping) and process impurities (host cell proteins, leached protein A). In addition, excellent interpersonal skills are required and must be team oriented. Good problem-solving and oral/written communication skills are a must. Familiarity with computer software including word processing, data evaluation, statistical packages desired.
