Franklin Advanced Materials develops and manufactures engineered materials for a wide range of industrial markets, including: photovoltaic solar cells, solid oxide fuel cells, hybrid microelectronics, multilayer microelectronics, electronic components, sensors, and other thick-film interconnect or metallization applications. We offer our products to customers around the world, providing custom materials development, component fabrication, and state-of-the-art testing services. In addition to industrial customers, we also offer custom materials and services to companies, universities, and labs that are engaged in research and development activities.
Our company has an immediate need for a research scientist who will work in materials development for solar cell applications. This position requires knowledge of precious metal powders, glass, and polymer technologies, which will be applied to the development of thick film materials for photovoltaic applications. Prior experience in the formulation and manufacturing scale up of conductive paste is required, preferably for solar cell applications. Use of DFSS/Lean Six Sigma methodology in product design and manufacturing process development is desired. An advanced degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Physics is strongly preferred.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment with short cycle times for delivering results. He/she has demonstrated innovation in R&D as well as an aptitude for lateral thinking. He/she possesses a thorough understanding of organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and/or chemical engineering along with rigorous attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills and written and verbal communications skills are required. This position will be located in the northeastern United States.
Responsibilities: - Creative thinking using the fundamental principles of chemistry to address R&D challenges in the laboratory and manufacturing - Working closely with Team members to ensure that experimental procedures, data analysis and interpretation meet high scientific/engineering standards - Liaison with the Manufacturing Team to ensure that bench-scale performance is appropriately specified and translates to the final product - Work with senior managers to develop budgets and schedules. - Maintain a collaborative work environment that stimulates and rewards excellence - Day-to-day management of existing R&D projects
Requirements:
Essential academic, professional qualifications and experience: 2+ years of R&D/industrial experience in photovoltaic devices Engineering degree in Materials, Chemical Engineering, or Physics. Advanced degree preferred. Experience in project development and testing of solar energy technologies is highly desirable Project management experience Experience with DFSS/SPC/DOE highly desirable.
