Research Fellow (Biology) (Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated; Cambridge, Massachusetts):
A senior research position that requires proven expertise in the execution of laboratory experiments and the interpretation of scientific results in enzymology, protein biochemistry and cell biology for the characterization of small molecule inhibitors of enzyme and cellular drug targets.Apply skills in the use of automated laboratory assay systems (e.g., automated liquid handling, assay robotics), data processing, and statistical quality control to perform high throughout screens of large chemical libraries, using the related knowledge to coordinate the work of other scientists (formally/informally) to advance drug development projects.Must be able to understand a conceptual drug target and execute a drug development strategy for it.Must have solid skills in oral / written communication that are suitable for a multidisciplinary team environment.Duties: plan, coordinate and execute studies that evaluate the viability of new drug development projects and / or business initiatives; provide intellectual and technological leadership and assess data integrity, with the ultimate goal of providing primary interpretations and recommendations to project teams and management; coordinate external research activities with contract research organizations (CROs); evaluate new drug target proposals, typically those related to discovering and optimizing small molecule chemical inhibitors of cellular signaling and / or metabolism that are candidates for subsequent use as drug treatments; coordinate resources required to advance drug target proposals in biochemical lab assays, and to design and execute the relevant lab assays; organize and present datato internal multidisciplinary scientific teams; serve as an academic discipline expert in matters of tactics and ethics for publishing and patenting; and play an integral role in the mentoring of junior scientists.

Requirements:
