Title: Research Associate - Waterman, IL Location: Illinois-Waterman Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary Research Team located in Waterman, IL. The Research Associate will primarily be responsible for supporting the activities of the Corn pathology organization in the field, lab and controlled environments.
The Field Research Associate will have the opportunity to support scientists in coordinating experiments, identifying corn diseases, implementing and administering Standard Operating Procedures, QA QC and safety procedures. This is an excellent opportunity to work with leading edge technology and talented cross functional scientists seeking to deliver the very best crop genetics.
Responsibilities: . Characterizing the disease response of key breeding lines and hybrids in the field and greenhouse. . Assisting in inoculum production and disease diagnostics. . Developing and assisting in lab, field and greenhouse experiments. . Preparation for/and planting, field plot maintenance, and data collection . Interact with scientists and breeders on and off-site for project related needs, . Participate in task-related document creation and process review for job-related activities . Ensure that company assets are well-cared and properly maintained Required Skills/Experience: . MS in Plant Pathology/Plant Breeding and at least 2 years of appropriate field and greenhouse experience related to Plant Pathology . Knowledge of conducting experiments in controlled environments . Experience conducting ELISA tests . Working knowledge of statistics . Documented individual leadership skills including excellent organizational and record keeping skills . Effective verbal and written communication skills. . Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs . Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary/multicultural research team . Experience evaluating the disease response of crop plants
Desired Skills/Experience: . Demonstrated an ability to write and speak fluently in English and work in interdisciplinary teams . Familiarity with culturing pathogens and disease diagnostics
