Title: Research Associate - Trait Integration Location: Iowa-Williamsburg Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability to work as a member of the Corn Trait Integration programs based in Williamsburg, IA. You will be responsible for supporting the activities of the Breeder and Testing Manager in all phases of a comprehensive trait integration process aimed at the introgression of new traits into elite corn cultivars.
You will have the opportunity to coordinate various testing trials, implementing and administering Standard Operating Procedures as part of ISO, QA/QC and safety procedures. Responsibilities: * Developing advancement summaries on key breeding lines and testers * Preparation of data for advancement and marker screening decisions * Tracking inbreds and hybrids * Preparation of monthly report * Preparation for/and planting, pollination, data collection and harvesting * Work closely with other research sites and external parties to coordinate daily activities with staff from other functional areas and other organizations sharing the same facilities. * Interact with scientists and breeders on and off-site for project related needs, * Participate in task-related document creation and process review for job-related activities * Participate with team to successfully develop and maintain ISO Quality Management Standards * Perform safety inspections and assist in providing safety training and guidance * Assist in other projects and perform other duties as and when required, including participation in weekend watering schedule
Required Skills/Experience: * BS in Agronomy, Plant breeding, or related field of study * 3 years of appropriate work experience in crop production or field based agricultural research * Strong familiarity with breeding and research methodologies with an understanding of hybrid breeding * Knowledge of crop and/or greenhouse production and farming practices * Strong computer software skills - MS Excel and MS Word and some experience with database software * Ability to work extended hours during the peak planting, pollination and harvest season * Individual leadership skills including excellent organizational and record keeping skills and demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks. * Effective verbal and written communication skills. * Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary/multicultural research team Desired Skills/Experience: * MS in Agronomy, Plant breeding, or related field of study * Corn research experience or hybrid crop breeding experience
