The role of the process control engineer is to support the Painesville facility by maintaining and optimizing Distributed Control System (DCS) assets. This position adds value and contributes to achieving the Lubrizol vision by lowering the cost to manufacture goods through focusing on process control and asset optimization initiatives. The role works directly as a project lead or with other project engineers to support control system needs for capital projects. Also, the role works with maintenance and production department engineers through non-capital engineering requests that require DCS support. The position reports to the Painesville Control Systems Manager.
Duties/Responsibilities: * Development of project scope and cost estimates with a focus on control system and instrumentation requirements. * Facilitate the development of project functional requirements based of the scope of work. * Provide technical support for all DCS related improvements. This would include support for all project aspects (I/O, configuration, batch procedures/operations/phases, testing, and start-up support). Interaction with DCS engineering support contractors may be required for larger projects or initiatives. * Work with production area engineers to implement process improvements related to the control systems. This includes control loop tuning, new equipment start-up, and other process changes required to support the business. * Work with production area engineers and maintenance personnel to maintain and troubleshoot DCS-related problems as needed. As the operations typically run 24/7, this responsibility may require some work outside normal working hours. * Provide operator training as needed to support DCS changes. * Provide technical guidance to Instrument Technicians on instrumentation issues as needed. * Work with corporate PI historian support group on adding process information to the PI Data Historian. * Support Process Hazard Analyses by providing input on control schemes as needed. May involve generating or improving existing documentation on control systems to facilitate review. * Develop and maintain site engineering and design standards. * Additional duties as assigned
* B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering from and accredited university with 5 to 10 years of process control/process engineering experience. * Experience in the development of functional requirements and control system design documentation. * Experience with configuration of Delta V process control systems including Delta V Batch configuration. * Understanding of or the ability to interpret ISA, NFPA and NEC standards and codes. * Experience with process instrumentation, including selection, sizing, and specification Considered a Plus: * Process Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment. * Field experience, troubleshooting both process and instrumentation equipment. * Project management experience for control system-related projects. * Experience with SAP * Experience with utilization of external engineering design resources and construction contractors. * Licensed professional engineer (chemical or process control)
