Our Exploration/Production/Carbon Management group in the Energy Systems Product Line specializes in providing innovative approaches to solving difficult problems in the areas of oil and gas exploration and production and using or storing carbon dioxide generated during energy production and use. We use advanced earth science tools, methods, and models to characterize geologic systems for the oil and gas industry and for long term storage of CO2, including enhanced hydrocarbon recovery.
Our Energy Systems Product Line is currently seeking a Principal Geophysicist in our Columbus Ohio office.
Specific Responsibilities include:
o Support geologic characterization and monitoring, risk, and implementation analysis
o Perform data interpretation and assessments of seismic surveys, deep well logs, and bedrock geology for exploration/production/CO2 injection and storage projects. Specific experience with complex logging suites, including open-hole triple combo, cased-hole PNC/CBL, image logs, geomechanical logs, and coring (selection of sidewall and full coring points, selection and interpretation of basic core tests, awareness of special core tests)
o Awareness of reservoir testing techniques and data analysis
o Support permitting process for CO2 and waste water injection and storage and implementation
o Evaluate monitoring options, risk, and implementation aspects of CO2 and waste water injection and storage, including potential for leakage via geologic features.
o Develop appropriate MMV plans and techniques to determine extent of injected CO2 and waste water plume, assess upward leakage, and monitor system integrity
o Provide expertise and modeling support for engineering, geologic, and risk assessment aspects of deep well injection
o Support senior staff in business development and proposal activities for geologic characterization and assessment opportunities for Battelle clients.
o Successfully manage task assignments within time and budget constraints
o Interact with clients to convey results or present findings through briefings
The Following Requirements Must Be Met To Be Considered For This Position:
o Master's degree in petroleum engineering, geologic sciences, or related discipline
o Minimum of 10 years of experience in related geologic activities for the oil and gas industry or CO2 injection programs including geologic characterization and monitoring, risk and implementation analysis.
o Experience in managing assigned tasks within scope and budget
o Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to represent Battelle or its clients at conferences or public forums.
