Dow AgroSciences Canada Inc. is a research based, agricultural sciences company with a diverse product portfolio including weed, insect and disease management for agricultural/horticultural crops and products for forestry and industrial vegetation management. Dow AgroSciences Canada is looking for a lab technician that will have the dual responsibility of working in both the NIR and molecular lab located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Responsibilities for the NIR portion of this position include sample management from harvested nursery and yield trials to providing quality data. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining the analytical equipment to guarantee quality data is produced. The successful incumbent must be detail oriented, able to manage multiple data systems and have excellent time management skills to ensure critical deadlines are met. Responsibilities for the molecular portion of this position include the execution of molecular biology protocols supporting the Brassica breeding efforts. The High Throughput Marker Assisted Selection Lab requires an individual to be able to excel in a fast paced environment with many deadlines. The incumbent must be able to multi-task several projects while maintaining all data in laboratory notebooks and databases from initiation of the projects through to the submission of the plants to the greenhouse. The Technician will be expected to provide technical support activities to other workgroups in the laboratory and greenhouse.
This is a lab based job that may require some flexible work hours or overtime hours during peak busy periods. Attention to detail and ability to consistently and accurately perform repetitive tasks is required. Good lab practice including experience with plant tissue culture, aseptic techniques, capacity to excel in a team environment, a working knowledge of analytical and molecular biology, computer skills, and written and verbal communication is a necessity for this position. * Associates or Bachelors degree in a Biotechnology program or equivalent job experience. * Previous experience in analytical chemistry, molecular biology, Brassica tissue culture, and Brassica transformation, would be an asset.
