Engineer, Instrument (I - III) at Houston Refining

Title: Engineer, Instrument (I - III) at Houston Refining
Location: TX-Houston
This position is responsible for leading instrumentation reliability improvement in a designated area of responsibility in the refinery. The successful candidate will be working with the area instrument specialist concerning daily issues.

Description:
* Manages the overall technical direction for design and installation of instrumentation, valves, control systems, PLC's, SIS, etc. for his/her assigned asset team. Generates and/or reviews, and approves instrumentation specifications, and design drawings/calculations within area of responsibility. Provides technical direction for engineering contractors on control systems technology, instrumentation, analysis equipment. Provides troubleshooting assistance to plant IEA Technicians.
* Develops and maintains standards and specifications. Creates and manages IEA PVM procedures. Assists in the development of Lyondell Corporate Design Standards through Best Practice Teams. Represents the Facility in industry and professional organizations, users groups, and other organizations, which address or govern APC, instrumentation, safety systems, optimization, and process control technologies, codes and standards. Develops, or assists in the development of, systems, tools and procedures necessary to improve engineering and design efficiency and ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and regulations within its area of technical responsibility.
* Participates in the technical review for all outside repair facilities (instrumentation/ relief valves), and/or blanket order vendor selections. Plays a key role in the formation of vendor alliances and committed business agreements to secure process instrumentation, analytical equipment, and control systems. Participates in E&C contractor qualification. Participates in incident investigations, RCFAs, FEMAs, RCMs, etc. Participate in all capital project P&ID and PHA / HAZOP reviews in asset area.
* Participates as a core team member on projects, which have major /significant IEA components, and as a resource for projects which have minor IEA components. Establishes, or participates in the establishment of process control configuration objectives in support of project scopes. Participates / provides assistance with FAT and SATs, commissioning and checkouts. Participates in the development of the project execution plan, and provides technical support on a project phase basis in accordance with the plan. He/she assists/participates in the pre-commissioning and start-up of new processes on an as needed basis as detailed in the execution plan to ensure adequate transfer of custody and care to plant operations.

BS degree in Electrical Engineering, 2-5 years Instrumentation and Controls experience in a chemical, refining or other process related facility. Strong written and verbal skills are a plus.


Must be at least 18 years of age.
