Monsanto is passionate about using science and technology to improve agriculture. Monsanto scientists are conducting research and development (R&D) to revolutionize plant breeding and biotechnology. The Technology Pipeline Solutions (TPS) team within IT works directly with the Monsanto scientists to develop software platforms that enable these research and development efforts. The accepted candidate will join the emerging field of IT systems informatics leveraging their data architecture expertise to play a key role in defining and delivering breakthrough science in high throughput R&D platforms for Monsanto.

The successful candidate will work with the Technology Pipeline Solutions (TPS) IT team in the analysis, design and development of enterprise-class software. The candidate will develop and maintain physical data models and participate in functional requirements and design sessions. The candidate must be capable of understanding data strategy on an enterprise level, implement the department's data architecture on a project level, and have the excellent communication skills necessary to successfully interact with business analysts, data architects, software architects, project managers, technical leads, software developers, and testers. This role is responsible for the technical implementation and performance tunning of the database, and will ensure the data is compliant with TPS architecture.

Specific responsibilities will include:
Development and maintenance of physical data models and data flow diagrams.
Working with business analysts and subject matter experts to understand informational requirements
Adhering to data architecture standards and strategies for designing solutions
Developing data migration strategies
Developing impact analysis for database changes including software development change estimates
Communicating data requirements to the development team and other stakeholders
Query performance tunning
Required Skills:

B.S. in computer science or equivalent experience
5 years as a Data Architect or Data Modeler within IT project environments
Full project life-cycle experience (from requirements gathering to testing)
An understanding of database design techniques for OLTP, data warehouse and data mart design
Experience in data modeling and data architecture principles
Experience in RDBMS technologies Oracle and SQL Server
Experience using tools such as Erwin, PowerDesigner and Qdesigner
An understanding/experience of working within an iterative development environment


Desired Skills:

Bioinformatics experience in the medical or other life sciences industries
Experience with Power Designer
Experience working in an Agile development process
Experience with database refactoring and agile database techniques
